The Plant Controller functions as a business partner with plant operating management and financial management to effectively manage, analyze, control and report the local data. As Plant Controller, you will lead the financial staff at the plant and be accountable for plant-level responsibilities, including general accounting, payables, job cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, treasury and business analysis. This role will also liaise with corporate financial staff, as required. This position is based in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and will require approximately 25% travel to the West Coast.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with corporate accounting management to prepare monthly reports of results, monthly forecasts, annual operating plan and strategic planning.
  • Develop a high level of product knowledge by client, and relate to profitability, job costing and reporting.
  • Responsible for internal controls at the plant for operations and finance. Analyze internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
  • Analyze and validate current month’s financial results to the plant and corporate management in accordance with corporate format and time requirements. Establish and report periodically on key performance indicators.
  • Ensure submission of all financial transactions, transmissions, and reporting on a timely and accurate basis. Accounting procedures to be developed and implemented across multiple facilities.
  • Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments.
  • Perform periodic reviews of job cost accounting to ensure product costs are accurate and accounted for properly. Report review results quarterly.
  • Ensure job costing accurately reflects production operations.
  • Support Production Scheduling with a focus on raw materials, work in process and finished goods inventory accounting, and reconcile these perpetual inventories to production, shipping, and returns on a periodic basis.
  • Perform periodic walkthroughs of the plant and discuss production and costing issues with the Plant Manager. Review labor reporting and cost, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution costs and inventory levels. Attend daily plant production meetings.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with manufacturing management personnel to discuss all plant issues. Develop and publish a formal agenda and recap with actions to be taken. Participate in periodic corporate financial management meetings.
  • Understand all systems applications, including F/A, Sage 100, ABC, Billing and others, and reporting conventions, as well as serve as the on-site IT expert for accounting applications.
  • Seek out and implement opportunities to enhance business practices and administrative workflow through automation. Migration from spreadsheets to improved processes and systems are the goal.
  • Work with Supply Chain Management (Scheduling) to analyze and resolve potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly.
  • Reconcile all inter-company accounts monthly.
  • Execute capital asset acquisition transaction processing, integrating with the Fixed Asset protocols and systems application.
  • Assure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Policies. Resolve questions of GAAP and internal controls with corporate financial management. Interface with external auditors as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • 5-10 years as Plant Controller or Cost Manager in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the printing/direct mail industry, managing a staff, with an emphasis on cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office and SAGE 100 or similar ERP/MRP systems.
  • Some prior exposure to broadly-based functions, such as Treasury, Tax, IT, HR, Regulatory Compliance, Operations, Risk Management, Financial Analysis, Sales or Marketing are desirable.
  • Preferred: Current active CMA designation or active CPA license with appropriate experience. Additional certifications are desirable. MBA preferred but not required.
